The World Outbreak, caused by the spread of the COVID-19 virus, has had a significant economic and social impact in various countries. As the pandemic spread, the global health system faced unprecedented pressure, causing a health crisis that hit all levels of society. Countries are implementing restrictions on mobility and economic activities to contain the spread of the virus, but these steps have serious consequences. Economically, many countries are seeing a sharp decline in Gross Domestic Product (GDP). For example, according to a World Bank report, the economies of countries such as Italy and Spain contracted by up to 12% during the first year of the pandemic. The sectors most affected include tourism and hospitality, which involve millions of workers. Many companies were forced to reduce employees or even go bankrupt, increasing unemployment rates dramatically. In Southeast Asia, Indonesia also felt a big impact. Although the country’s economy initially grew rapidly, the pandemic led to the closure of small and medium-sized businesses that were the backbone of the economy. The government has launched various aid packages, but many people are still experiencing difficulties due to the unequal distribution of aid. The education sector has also been shaken, with school closures and a sudden shift to online learning. In India, this has led to a significant digital divide, with students from remote areas without internet access being left behind. These educational inequalities can have long-term impacts on the career prospects of future generations. From a social perspective, people’s mental health is also disturbed. With social restrictions in place, a spike in cases of anxiety and depression has been seen. In many places, such as the United States, many mental health organizations report an increase in visits from patients seeking help. In Europe, protest movements emerged in response to government measures in handling the pandemic. Concerns about individual freedoms and public trust in government were tested, creating widespread social tensions. With vaccinations starting to be implemented in various parts of the world, hope is emerging for economic recovery. However, major challenges remain; fair and effective distribution of vaccines and recovery of the most affected sectors. The sustainability of work and economic survival in the future greatly depends on the policies implemented and society’s adaptation to the new normal situation. This adaptation includes the application of technology in business and education, which can be the foundation for a more inclusive recovery in various countries.
